Florida Keys Hawkwatch 2012

August 11, 2012

The Florida Keys Hawkwatch 2012 will take place from September 15 through November 13 at Curry Hammock State Park in Little Crawl Key, just north of the city of Marathon. Official counters and volunteers will be monitoring migration daily – rain or shine – 09:00-16:00 DST (08:00-17:00 EST).

Each fall, as many as 20,000 birds of prey migrate over the Florida Keys, including hawks, eagles and more Peregrine Falcons than anywhere else in the continent. The Florida Keys Hawkwatch is committed to the long-term monitoring of these birds, many of which are imperiled, as they migrate south along the Atlantic Flyway towards the Caribbean and South America.

Visitors and volunteers are welcome. For more information, call 305-804-6003.
